Tour of the Terraces

Why is football the greatest game ever played on Rory McAllister’s Green Earth?

A question that could be hotly debated over pints all night in boozers from Galabank to Balmoor. At Tour of the Terraces we will try and find an answer to that golden question, as we traverse the murky waters of the Scottish lower leagues; to find out why the loyalist of loyal Cowdenbeath fans come back week after week to watch their team get continually pumped? Or why a foolhardy bunch of Queen’s Park fans opt to support an amateur side over Glasgow’s giants? Or what’s the appeal for 150 Stranraer fans who made the 100 mile round trip to Ayrshire on a standard shitey Saturday on the Scottish West Coast?

What we have decided to try and accomplish via the Tour of the Terraces is to rate each trip we take for you, to each town and stadium of Scotland’s lower leagues explaining several aspects of the outings – this will include writing about:

The Atmosphere: (Including the pubs and general mood in the town and stadium as well as how ‘wild’ the bounce is)

The Facilities: (The ease of access to the stadium, in-game pies and Bovril’s as well as the mint condition toilets)

The Team: (Mini match summary and how engaged we felt with the team)

Scoring each out of 100 resulting in an overall rating.

We hope to widen your knowledge on what each ground offers and the personality of each club along the way. To numb the pain, we will make sure many a pint is sunk to fully embrace what the luxurious Scottish lower leagues are all about.

See you all on the other side…

  1. Where to start. We’ve never seen a 0-0. Joe not knowing Berwick was in England. You can get your Bovril in your own mug in Alloa. Daft stuff like guys getting hit by ball when it stoats off the terraces. We’ve been at it since 2007 because we both work weekends and a lot of it was done by public transport. Celtic supporters- no point buying season tickets as we can’t go every week so why not give a wee bit back all round. Favourite ground- Easter Road. Least favourite- Tynecastle. And we’ve paid into every ground

    1. That’s exactly what we’ll look for, the brilliant satirical side of the Scottish game as well as the entertainment that brings. Fair play to you for showing the lower leagues some love, hopefully you can relate to some of our posts mate
